Spain, the land of the famous Spaniards, is located in southern Europe. Spain also has one of the largest economies, in the world with a GDP of over one trillion dollars. The country is the 51st largest country in the world. Spain, also known as Espana or Reino de Espana, was declared as a sovereign state in the year 1978 and is the eight country, to join the European Union or Euro zone. It is also recognized as State of Autonomies or often referred to as a decentralized nation. Spain, as a country is still considered to be exceedingly, a Hispanic country, maintaining its identification with Latin America.
The country of Spain has a very diverse culture, that springs up from its rich heritage. Most of the Spanish culture, has its base in Latin America and Roman Catholicism. This culture, also has some links with Celt Iberian, Islamic and Visigoth culture, which is eminent in the architecture that forms the Spanish landscape. Spain, like Italy, has the largest number of world heritage sites, totaling up to 41. Spain’s diversity in its geography and generation has impressed a great European influence on the artists and their art in the country, which can clearly be noticed in cities like Cordoba, Granada, and Seville. The country’s architecture is a mix of Islamic, Latin American, and European themes. The Spanish cuisine, has influenced many a palette, around the world, and is highly influenced by the country’s Mediterranean roots.
A must visit for tourists includes the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, The Sanctuary of Santa Maria Magdalena in Novelda, the Roman Aqueduct in Segovia and the world renowned Burgos Cathedral. Spain like Italy and France, is a country, that is dominated the sport of football, also known as soccer.
The climate of Spain, is highly influenced by the Mediterranean region and the Atlantic Ocean, and the country thus experiences, three major climatic zones; a continental climatic zone, a Mediterranean climatic zone and an Oceanic climatic zone Spain, is mainly a flat plateau, with many mountain ranges, making up the borders. Spain share’s its borders with France, Morocco, Portugal, and Gibraltar.
The government of Spain, is highly a democratic constitutional monarchy, with President of the Government, presiding over the council of ministers. The whole of Spain is divided into seventeen communities and two cities of Melilla and Ceuta. These communities along with the cities are further divided into fifty provinces.
