Thailand is located in the south east of Asia. Since 1932, after the absolute monarchy had been thrown, Thailand has had seventeen constitutions and charters. Throughout the time, the government has swung between a military based once and a democratic one. Although various forms of government, did exist, all of these forms of government have acknowledged and accepted a monarchy based hierarchy, leading to the head of the state. Currently, there is a martial law prevailing in Thailand. Thailand, shares its borders with Laos and Cambodia. Area wise Thailand is the forty-ninth largest country in the world, having an area of 514,000 square kilometer.
Thailand has culture which has been highly influenced by India, China and other south East Asian countries. The heart of the modern day Thai culture is the, Theravada Buddhism, which has evolved from being influenced by many neighboring communities and animal or pagan based worship. Some of the southeastern parts of Thailand, also are based on the Islamic culture. The Thai culture, is essentially like many other eastern cultures, incorporates ancestral respect as a part of the Thai spirituality. The Thai cuisine is one of the most revered cuisines all over the world and is based on five fundamental flavors, they being – salty, bitter, sour, spicy, and sweet. For most of the tourists here, the food is the only reason for their trip to the country, with famous curries, fruit salads, and fresh fish that is made more ways than possible.
Thailand is a tropical nation, and thus it experiences a tropical climate. The country is hot and humid, almost all round the year and temperatures vary from 27 degree Celsius to thirty five degree Celsius. However, the period from July to October, does experience some tropical rains. From most of March to June, Thailand suffers a heats stroke, with temperatures hitting forty degree Celsius. Although there is not winter season, per se, in Thailand, the period from November to February, does see some drop in temperatures and the air is cooler.
Thailand is made up of seventy six provinces, Bangkok being the capital of the country. There is plenty to do in Thailand, the average tourist can Golf, Climb rocks, Scuba dive, trek, and so on. Thailand is also known as the shopper’s paradise, this is more so prominent in the capital, Bangkok. Excellent buys, here include, cheap Thai silk, electronics, cheap and durable clothing, computer gear and so on.
